TEACHER TRAINING:
Right from its inception, Amicus School has been extremely popular both with those wishing to be trained and employers seeking highly professional and qualified teachers. The graduates of the college are in high demand and due to the quality of work they display while on teaching practice, most are promised jobs upon completion of their courses.
This is because Mrs. Joyce Marangu the Director of the school has always kept abreast with emerging issues within this sector. She maintains that to remain relevant one has to always continuously review the curriculum so as to remain relevant and global in this fast changing world while maintaining strong Christian Principles. Research is a strong component in the training programmes as it enables the students to continuously foster appropriate practice.
Amicus has always worked closely in collaboration with internationally recognized institutions including Froebel College of Education, Dublin to help individuals acquire desired skills. Froebel Education, which Amicus School embraces, is associated with progressive child-centred education. It seeks to foster quality teaching and learning, creativity, integration and sound practical classroom management in whatever situations teachers work with children. Froebel Education takes its name from the 19th century German educator, and founder of Kindergarten, Friedrich Froebel (1782 - 1852). He advocated reverence for the child, learning through activity, exploration of the environment, enjoyment of beauty in all its manifestations and acceptance of the gifts of each individual. To Froebel belongs the credit for finding the true nature of play and regulating it to lead naturally into work, to what today has become popularly known as ‘learning through play’.
The mind grows by self revelation. In play the child ascertains what he can do, discovers his possibilities of will and thought by exerting his power spontaneously. In work he follows a task prescribed for him by another, and doesn‘t reveal his own proclivities and inclinations; but another‘s. In play he reveals his own original power.-
Froebel Today Amicus is validated by the Commission for Higher Education (C.H.E) and is associated with Kenya National Examinations Council as our National examining body. This has greatly benefited most of our students, because they have the chance to continue with their education up to graduate and post graduate levels. A number of the Amicus alumni are currently pursuing or have attained their Masters in Education.
