Mrs. Joyce Marangu, Founder of Amicus School
History
The Amicus Early Childhood Development and Education (E.C.D.E) teacher training college was established in the year 2000. It was founded by Mrs. Joyce Marangu, an accomplished educationist who had by then taught at all levels of education right from being a college tutor, secondary and primary school teacher, to running a kindergarten. She set up the Lavington Church Kindergarten in 1993 and tutored kindergarten teachers at the Kindergarten Headmistress Association (K.H.A) College until 1999. Having taught students at different stages in life, she decided that the early childhood stage in Education was the most important, and that teachers of early years have to be well equipped and prepared in both theory and practice. She felt that a teacher training college should pay equal importance to both these aspects and that a kindergarten teacher should be able to develop the child appropriately in the school but also have a sound understanding of a child’s development and needs at different stages. She then proceeded to establish a college that would do just that and hence the birth of the Amicus Teacher training college.
